Uses of Table Salt In The Kitchen
- If food burns the bottom of your frypan or saucepan cover it with vinegar and a tablespoon of table salt, leave it overnight and then wipe the pan clean with a kitchen cloth.
- A paste made from table salt and vinegar can be used to clean metal objects and utensils made of brass, silver or copper. Simply use a soft cloth to put some of the paste onto then metal, rub it from a while, rinse it under cold water and then thoroughly dry it.
- You can easily deodorise and remove the grimy deposits in your kitchen and laundry drains by mixing ½ cup of salt with 1 cup of boiling water and pour it down the drain.
- If you have a chopping board that smells of onions, garlic or meat then deodorize it by rubbing it vigorously with a damp cloth dipped in salt.
- After you have rinsed your kitchen sponge or cloth soak it for ½ hour in cold salt water to thoroughly clean it and remove any bad smells from it.
- Use salt in a non-stick frypan to ensure that food does not stick to it. Simply coat the bottom of the pan with salt water before heating it and this will also reduce the amount of smoke given off during cooking.
- If some food has spilt in the over whilst you are cooking simply put some water on it while the over is still warm and then sprinkle some salt over it. After the oven cools you can easily wipe the spill clean.
- Another great use of table salt is to clean your coffee machine. Simply add 4 tablespoons of salt to it and then proceed as if you where making a pot of coffee. This will leave the coffee machine clean and refreshed.
- If you are cooking in the kitchen and a small fire breaks out because some fat or oil has caught on fire then you can douse the flames by throwing salt onto it. Do NOT ever put water onto a fire from oil or grease because it will spit hot oil everywhere and accelerate the fire.
- To enable easy pouring from your kitchen salt shakers simply put a few grains of rice in the shaker along with the salt.
