  • Eating too much salt or drinking salt water is generally bad for you, however a small amount of salt each day is ok, especially if you use iodized table salt. Iodized salt actually contains iodine, which is essential for a healthy brain. So replace your normal table salt with iodized salt in all of your cooking and meals.
  • If you have a sore throat or can't stop coughing then the best and easiest way to relieve it is to gargle with salt water. Just add 1 teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water and then gargle with it until it is all gone.

  • Salt can be used to soothe and deodorize tired feet. Just add ¼ cup salt to a shallow pan or tub of warm water and soak your feet for at least 15 minutes.

Re-soak the cloth and continue the salt water flush of your eyes every 5 minutes.
  • You can make your own salt water eyewash that will help to clean your eyes and relieve the itchiness of conjunctivitis. Just add 1 teaspoon of salt to 500ml of water and boil for 15 minutes. The let it cool down and use an eyedropper to flush your eyes a few times a day.
  • Gargling with salt water can actually help to relieve the pain caused by an earache. Garling will reduce the swelling in the eustachin tubes in the ear and help to unblock any fluid build up that has occurred.
  • A salt water mouthwash can also help with a toothache. Rinse for about 30 seconds with warm salt water and this will reduce the swelling around the sore tooth.
