Homemade Cleaning Products - Lemon Juice

• Lemon juice is a natural de-greaser. So make your cleaning chores easier by using it as an effective homemade cleaning product on all sorts of greasy stains and marks around the house.
• To create an effective lemon spray for your dog add a thinly sliced lemon to ½ litre of boiling water, allow to sit overnight and then strain. Spray this liquid liberally to the coat of your pet dog and rub it into the skin. Lemons contain limonene which makes them good for the skin, an effective insect repellent and also affects the flea's waxy coating causing them to die of dehydration.
• You can get a lot more lemon juice from lemons if you warm it in the microwave for 20 seconds before squeezing it.
• For a homemade cleaning product that can clean your toilet bowl without harsh chemicals make a paste of lemon juice and borax and apply it to the toilet. Leave it there for a few hours and then brush and rinse it clean.
• To leave you house smelling nice and eliminate any odours from home humidifiers, especially after a long winter, put a few teaspoons of lemon juice into the water.
• At dinner parties if you are serving any sort of food that requires your guests to use their hands then provide bowls of warm water with lemon slices floating in them so that guests can rinse their fingers and remove any odours from them.
• When you pick lemons from your supermarket, green grocer or own lemon tree it is best if they feel heavy for their size. Lemons will generally only keep for a week at room temperature, but will keep for up to 3 weeks if refrigerated.
• If you are whipping cream and it will not turn into a stiff mixture then add a few drops of lemon juice to help it whip properly.
• Certain foods such as apples, bananas and avocados tend to oxidize and turn brown after being sliced. If you sprinkle lemon juice on them then the acid will act as a short-term preservative by stopping the enzymes that cause the browning of the fruit.
• Place excess lemon juice in ice cube trays and freeze it. Then store it in a freezer bag so that you can use it whenever you want.
